The Stryneelva meets the Nordfjord

Close to the fjord, the mountains and all the experiences Western Norway has to offer lies the centre of Stryn. One of Norway’s most beautiful rivers winds its way through the village. For many, Stryn is the perfect base for nature, experiences and cosy holiday moments.

The town of Stryn is located where the Stryneelva meets the Nordfjord. Here you’ll find a village full of life and activity, great options for visitors, and an ideal starting point for exploring both local natural gems and world-famous attractions. Stryn offers activities for everyone, from peaceful fjord idyll to challenging mountain peaks. It’s a short distance to Loen, Olden, Hjelle, and also not far from Geiranger, Lom and the Sunnmøre Alps.

Spring

Spring in Stryn is the time when the snow melts in the valley while the mountain peaks are still white. Tvinnefossen comes alive with powerful river roar, and the peaks Kyrkjenibba, Glitregga and Ringdalshyrna tempt with Easter snow, while Skuten and Dagsturhytta offer hikes. This is a perfect time for those who want to experience nature without the busiest summer tourists.

Summer

Summer is the high season in Stryn, and the village buzzes with life. The peaks Gryta, Bergsetnakken, and Årheimsfjellet lure hikers, and you can cool down in the many rivers you’ll find in the village. The village comes alive during the Motorfestival and the Rubber Boat Festival, and the long, bright evenings make room for experiences far into the night.

Autumn

Autumn makes Stryn especially atmospheric, and is probably the most colorful time. This is a quieter time in the village, ideal for those who want more peace on mountain hikes, and to catch beautiful sunsets in a landscape filled with color. The light becomes softer and the air crisper. When October arrives, the village comes alive again during Oktoberfest Stryn, Norway’s largest Oktoberfest, where people from all over the country gather to celebrate the Nordfjord way.

Winter

Winter transforms Stryn into a winter paradise. Stryn Vinterski opens, and ski tourers find endless possibilities in the surrounding mountains. The cross-country trails at Ullsheim offer miles of groomed tracks, and you can sit down and enjoy the winter sun at one of the many mountain summer farms in the area.

The Festival Village

Stryn is not only known for its beautiful nature. The village has also established itself as a festival village that attracts people from all over the country all year round. The Visefestival and the Treskifestival take you back in time and offer plenty of culture, while the Strynefestival offers outdoor life and action in June. Speed and excitement await at Motorfestival Stryn, which fills the streets with classics and roaring engines. If you're looking for something different, we recommend Gummibåtfestival Stryn, where the whole concept is about floating down the tube-like Stryneelva in inflatable boats. You also won’t want to miss Strynemessa, which offers a market and village life, and Oktoberfest Stryn, where people come from far and wide to celebrate Oktoberfest the Nordfjord way.

The festivals make Stryn more than a destination for nature experiences – here people come together to share the joy of music, culture, and community. If you have the opportunity, we recommend planning your trip here during one of the many festivals.

Activities for the whole family

In Stryn you’ll find activities that suit both young and old. At Hydlaparken, you can play in climbing courses among the treetops and soar through zip-lines, challenge yourself on the pump track, or relax with a good coffee. In winter, Stryn Vinterski takes over and offers alpine experiences at varying levels of difficulty. Ski tourers will find endless opportunities in the winter mountains, and guided tours are available for those who want them.

Trail biking is a unique experience in Stryn. The network of trails between Ullsheim and Stryn runs through gently rolling terrain with lovely mountain farms and views of fjord and mountains. At Ullsheim you’ll also find a disc golf course, and in winter miles of trail network are groomed, providing excellent winter terrain for classic skiing and skating.

Nature experiences and excursions

Stryn offers world-class nature experiences right on your doorstep. Tvinnefossen is one of the most accessible waterfalls in the area, and you can park close by for an up-close encounter with a powerful cascade. If you want to experience real Western Norway roads that twist and turn from farm to farm, you can drive the panoramic road that connects Stryn and Nordfjordeid. For those who want to head higher into the mountains, Kyrkjenibba, Gryta, Marsåhyrna and Skuten at Kirkeeide offer great hikes with wide views over Stryn and the surrounding mountains.

Food and drink

Stryn has a good selection of places to eat and drink to suit different needs. Isehaug Kafeteria and Johans Pub are well-known meeting places in the village, while Minibakeriet tempts with freshly baked goods. Matstova serves hearty traditional home-style food, and Stryn Kaffebar og Vertshus offers coffee culture and good drinks in cosy surroundings.
