Nature and landscape
The landscape in Bremanger is characterized by dramatic contrasts. Out by the open ocean you encounter open sea, white beaches, and steep mountains that plunge straight down into the sea. At the same time, you’ll find vibrant local communities closely connected to nature and coastal life.
Grotlesanden is one of the best-known beaches in the area – a long, white sandy beach facing the Atlantic Ocean. Nearby are villages such as Grotle and Iglandsvik, where life for generations has been shaped by fishing, farming, and proximity to the sea.
Vetvika was for a long time a secret known only to a few. Today, the roadless cove is known for its chalk-white beach, azure-blue sea, and steep mountains rising all around. The hike there is a longer walk, which means you can still experience the silence and have nature almost to yourself.
Activities
Bremanger has many marked hiking trails, from easy walks to more demanding mountain hikes. The hike to the top of Hornelen takes several hours, but rewards you with a view that stretches across fjords, mountains, and islands out at the edge of the open sea.
For those who want a more adrenaline-filled experience, you can try the Hornelen Via Ferrata. Here you climb along Europe’s highest sea cliff with the ocean right beneath you.
From Grotlesanden, the hike to Veten also starts—a western mountain plateau with wide views over the sea. From Iglandsvik there are several hikes in easy to moderately challenging terrain, with great viewpoints over the coastal landscape. If you want to experience the area from the sea, there are guided tours that take you close to both nature and wildlife along the coast.
