Gardsbrenneriet is beautifully located in a sunny and sheltered spot at Hauge, on the northern side of the Gloppefjord in Nordfjord. The municipality of Gloppen is known for its strong agricultural traditions and vibrant local food culture – where local raw materials are refined into unique taste experiences.
The company was founded by Synnøve and Jann in 2012 on the family farm Jørnbruket. What began with pressing their own apples has grown into an apple press, cidery, and craft distillery producing a wide range of beverages. The assortment includes non-alcoholic cider, craft sodas, juniper beer, tonic, cider, hard seltzer, craft cocktails, fruit and berry liqueurs, vodka, rum, gin, aquavit, and fruit spirits.

The company was founded by Synnøve and Jann in 2012 on the family farm Jørnbruket. The assortment includes non-alcoholic cider, craft sodas, juniper beer, tonic, cider, hard seltzer, craft cocktails, fruit and berry liqueurs, vodka, rum, gin, aquavit, and fruit spirits.
There is a strong drive to develop new products based on Norwegian raw materials. A combination of agricultural expertise, traditional craftsmanship passed down from previous generations on the farm, and professional training as chemists has made it possible to develop proprietary production equipment and methods. This has resulted in innovative products such as whey spirits – made from a residual resource from cheese production – rum based on Norwegian sugar beets, and fermented hard seltzer.
Sustainability and efficient use of resources are central to the operation. Surplus raw materials such as pressed fruit, plums, whey, and potatoes are given new life. The entire value chain, from raw material to finished product, takes place within the company’s own operations. Here, visitors can experience the taste of Nordfjord – from soil to glass.
Gardsbrenneriet – from West Norwegian soil to refined spirits
Jørnbruket – a farm with long traditions
Jørnbruket is part of the historic Hauge estate, with traces of settlement dating back to the Early Iron Age. Fruit has been cultivated here since the 19th century, and since the 1930s plant propagation and vegetable production have been part of the farm’s operations. The favourable fjord climate provides excellent growing conditions for fruit, berries, and vegetables, and the farm even has its own apple variety – the Hauge apple.
Måneskinshagen – organic cultivation and cultural heritage
Today, organic apples and rhubarb are grown at Jørnbruket. Cultural heritage is preserved through a focus on historic varieties, with apple trees grafted and rhubarb plants propagated on the farm. Other crops are also grown for use in beverages, including dill for the summer aquavit.
In spring, organic seedlings of more than 100 different varieties of vegetables and herbs are produced, with particular emphasis on heritage varieties well suited to the fjord climate.
Two visitor locations
Gardsbrenneriet and Måneskinshagen – Øvre Nordstranda 96
At the farm, visitors will find a fruit and berry press, cidery, and distillery. Surplus raw materials such as pressed fruit, plums, whey, and potatoes are further refined here and transformed into premium spirits. During the summer season, guided tours of the farm can be booked, offering insight into the history, raw materials, and production processes.
From mid-April to mid-June, there is a self-service sale of organic vegetable and herb plants at the entrance to the farm road.
