Nordfjord for children

In Nordfjord you will find many offers that are suitable for families. Bring the kids and let them explore nature through exciting activities. Here is some examples for inspiration.

Experience the glaciers
The Briksdalsbreen glacier is a popular destination, and there is a lovely walk up the three-kilometre-long gravel road to the glacier past exciting potholes and grazing animals. Maybe you would enjoy an exciting drive up in the small, open ‘Troll’ cars?

There are lovely walks for families up to the Bødalsbreen and Kjenndalsbreen glaciers in Lodalen – you can easily push a pram on the good path in Kjenndalen valley.

Loen Skylift and Via Ferrata
Take the new cable car to Mt. Hoven (1011 m). Great walks in the area. If you would like to climb, you can try the specially adapted climbing route to the top of Mt. Hoven (age limit 12 years).

Riding Fjord horses
Norsk Fjordhestsenter in Nordfjordeid and Stall Rygg in Sandane offer horse riding trips in the mountains and in the local area – from half-hour trips to day trips.

Farm visit
At Nave Hjortefarm (deer farm) in Bryggja, you can see red deer at close hand and help to feed them. The farm also has cashmere goats, llamas, a donkey and a dog. At Hakalle Farm in Vanylven, you can see alpaca, dogs, peacocks, goats, miniature horses, donkeys, cats and horses.

Stryn Summer Ski Centre
How about a skiing trip in the middle of summer? Stryn Summer ski centre is on Strynefjellet mountain, 45 km east of Stryn town centre. Open from May to June/July.

Tenpin bowling in Vågsøy
Here, you can celebrate birthdays, have something to eat and drink, bowl, play pool and other fun activities.

Indoor and outdoor swimming
Take a bucket and spade with you and explore the following sandy beaches in Selje: Seljesanden, Ervik, Hoddevik or Refviksanden in Vågsøy. There are also lovely bathing spots further up the fjord, such as at Sagaparken in Eid. Alexandra Bad & Spa and Scandic Nordfjord have swimming pools and outdoor jacuzzis. Gloppen Camping and Byrkjelo Camping have heated outdoor pools with a sun terrace and play area. Some of the public swimming pools are also open in summer. 

Ball courts, playgrounds, sand volleyball courts and mini golf
can be found in the various municipalities in Nordfjord, often in the vicinity of schools.

Skateboard parks
At Stryn stadium, Folven Camping in Hjelledalen, Sandane center and at Eid Sports Park at Nordfjordeid you will find area for skating.

Walking trips
There are many child-friendly walks and cultural trails in the Nordfjord area, the following areas are particularly suitable forchildren: Trivselsskogen in Sandane, Harpefossen in Eid, trails in Stryn and Hoven (Loen Skylift). 

Cinema
If it is bucketing down, it might be nice to stay indoors and watch a film. Ask at the Tourist Information Office or look for posters.
