Visit Nordfjord Museum of Cultural History in Gloppen, and discover the region’s rich cultural heritage. The museum, idyllically situated at Sandane, offers insight into life in Nordfjord from the 1600s onwards
The open-air museum has 44 historical buildings from all over Nordfjord, most of them from the 1700 and 1800s, which show how people lived from the 1600s to the present day. You can go on a journey of discovery at the farmstead and the rest of the beautiful scenery on your own, or request a tour. Indoors we offer permanent and alternating cultural history exhibitions.
Several of the homes, barns and storehouses are furnished, showing different time periods. All the buildings are from villages

Several of the homes, barns and storehouses are furnished, showing different time periods. All the buildings are from villages around Nordfjord, giving you a sense of what it was like to live in the area in the past.
For younger visitors, we have a play area featuring activities for the whole family.
Events: The museum hosts many different events throughout the year. Our website has an overview of upcoming events.
Food, drinks and gift shop:
In the main building you will also find a small café with simple meals and a gift shop with gifts, souvenirs and books. The café offers lactose-free and gluten-free options, as well as sugar-free ice cream.
Season: The museum is open all year, except January, Easter and select public holidays. Please visit our website for information on opening hours.
Accessibility:
The exhibition rooms, café and gift shop in the main building are all universally designed. The Frislid building from 1864, and large parts of the open-air museum, are accessible. However, the open-air museum has somewhat hilly terrain.
A short 5-minute drive from the museum, you’ll find Holvikejekta – Stave Church of the Sea, our new museum set to open in June. A visit there is included in your Nordfjord Museum of Cultural History entry ticket.
Sandane has plenty to offer, and we recommend visiting Trivselsskogen (a beautiful hiking area) and have a meal at the Gloppen Hotel, known for its excellent local cuisine.
