Taste of Nordfjord

The apples are ripe in the fruit-growing villages along the fjord – in Gloppen, Innvik, Utvik, Loen and Olden the trees hang heavy with fruit, and several farms sell directly from the farm. In Sandane you’ll find Gardsbrenneriet, Kandal ysteri og gardsmat and Sølvane gard – all with local products you won’t find elsewhere. Nordfjord Smak brings together several of the best producers in the region and is a great starting point for a food tour.

In Kalvåg, Knutholmen offers fresh seafood and coastal culture, and in autumn the shellfish are at their best. Alexandra in Loen and Gloppen Hotell in Sandane are reliable addresses for good, local food in calm surroundings.

Colors and calm in the valleys

Oldedalen and Lodalen in autumn colors are among the most beautiful things you can experience in Norway. The birch forest glows yellow and red, the lakes mirror the mountains, and the trails are quiet. It’s a perfect time for photographers and for anyone who wants to hike without having to queue. Briksdalsbreen, Kjenndalsbreen and Bødalsbreen are still easily accessible, and the boat season on Lovatnet often extends into September.

The sea and the storms

At Stad, autumn is a nature experience of its own. The Atlantic rises up, and you can watch the waves crash against Vestkapp in a wild and gripping spectacle. It’s not dangerous – it’s spectacular. And afterwards, it’s great to have a hot meal and a quiet weekend in Nordfjordeid.

After a day in the mountains or by the water, it’s nice to rest your body in the spa and bathing facilities at Hotel Alexandra in Loen, both with long traditions of well-being in beautiful surroundings.
