Afternoon Tea
Welcome to a tasty and colorful experience in idyllic surroundings! Drink from elegant teacups with gold rims, enjoy a delicate sandwich, take a bite of a freshly baked scone, or how about a sweet cake that melts in your mouth?
Afternoon tea was already being drunk in Great Britain in the 1600s and 1700s, but the special afternoon tea, stylishly served with small treats, did not become a common custom until around 1840, when the Duchess of Bedford felt a bit low on energy in the afternoons and asked her servants to serve her tea with something small to eat. By the end of the 1800s, the almost ceremonial custom of drinking afternoon tea with small sandwiches and cakes slowly spread to homes in the middle class as well. The Duchess of Bedford thus became one of the first successful "cake influencers" in England!
The somewhat finer afternoon tea developed throughout the 1800s, with increasingly intricate rules for etiquette. One was to use a special type of porcelain, special settings, and a certain type of clothing. The main role in the meal is, of course, the tea, but different types of sandwiches, scones, and small cakes complete the experience where not only the taste is important, but also the visual aspect.
Afternoon tea has also become a natural part of the offerings in Nordfjord. Here, you don't need to be formally dressed or belong to the nobility/aristocracy to enjoy the luxury of colorful porcelain and white tablecloths in beautiful surroundings. If you wish for bubbles to accompany the experience, this can be ordered.
