From Ancient Farms to Holy Ground
Join us on a journey through more than 1,000 years of Christianity in Selje — a town once at the heart of Norway’s earliest diocese.
The tour begins at Nabben in Selje Center, with an idyllic walk along the beautiful Selje Beach.
You'll have time to capture scenic photos of this peaceful coastal landscape.
Our route leads to Selje Church, where you’ll hear the fascinating story behind its architecture and Selje’s role as a pilgrimage site.
Learn about the ancient diocese, the Benedictine monks, the monastery, and the four kings of Selja Island — all woven into the town’s remarkable spiritual heritage.
Next, we visit the archaeological site that marks Selje as one of Norway’s earliest centers of farming.
Here you’ll get a glimpse into the 4,000-year-old discovery and what it reveals about the people who lived — and were later buried — in this historic area.
We finish the day at Prestegarden (The Presbytery) in Selje Center, where you can relax and enjoy a traditional Norwegian lunch or coffee meal in a charming historic setting.
Lunch consists of a traditional Norwegian coffee meal and a light lunch, provided by Bakerie, the local bakery in Bryggja. You’ll enjoy homemade baked goods and simple dishes made with quality local ingredients, served in the calm and historic surroundings of Selje Prestegard. The setting offers a relaxed atmosphere where you can slow down and take in the experience.
Tour Highlights:
● Stroll Selje Beach
● Tour the inside of Selje Church (160 years old)
● Walk past the 4000yr old archeological dig in the center of Selje
