Hornelen Panorama | Smia
Here you’ll find a peaceful and distinctive place to stay close to nature, with a view towards Europe’s highest sea cliff – Hornelen.
Smia is an architect-designed bedroom cabin set into the rock, with large floor-to-ceiling windows. The ancient stone is part of the room itself, creating a rustic and natural atmosphere. The concrete floor has comfortable heating, and from the large bed you can look out at the night sky – and sometimes the northern lights. Outside, sheltered by the forest, there is a bathtub where you can sit in warm water and enjoy the quiet surroundings. Smia is available year-round and offers a glamping

The name Smia comes from an old smithy that once stood here on the farm at Lofnes. Traces of the craft are still visible, and old history meets modern design in a natural way. From Smia, a short staircase through the apple garden leads to a private apartment. Large windows open towards the fjord and mountains, and in winter you can sit by the wood stove and listen to the wind outside. The bathroom is modern, the kitchen is well equipped, and outdoors guests have their own seating area and fire pit, all with a view. Care has been taken with the details both indoors and outside.
Nature is always close here. Hornelen rises on the opposite side of the fjord and is visible almost everywhere you go. Hiking trails start right by the property, and the trailhead for Hornelen is only a few minutes’ drive away. There is also easy access to places such as Grotlesanden, Vetvika, the Ålfotbreen landscape protection area, and the coastal village of Kalvåg. The area is rich in cultural history, including the Vingen rock carving site, where guided tours take you thousands of years back in time.
Lofnes is easy to reach. The express boat from Bergen stops in the village, and we can drive you to the property from the quay. For those arriving by car, there is free parking and access to an electric car charger.
