Orheimstunet Farmyard

Orheimstunet: Authentic Farm Stay and Historic Serenity in the Heart of Nordfjord

General information

Do you dream of a complete escape? Arrive to freshly made beds and feel your pulse slow down behind the thick stone walls of Orheimstunet. Here, you don’t just rent a house; you gain access to an entire farmstead steeped in soul and history. With 3 bedrooms (sleeping 8), two living rooms, and a spacious loft, this is the perfect holiday home for the extended family. There is plenty of room for three generations to enjoy, and your dog is, of course, more than welcome.

A Taste of Organic Farm Life

Our garden is a natural larder. Throughout the summer, you can pick organic blueberries, raspberries, redcurrants, apples, plums, and herbs directly from the source.
• Bee Safari: Join the hostess in the apiary and harvest your own fresh honey produced right here on the farm.
• Tractor Rides: If the farmer is home, there’s often a chance for the little ones to go for a ride on the tractor.
• Our traditional norwegian Stabbur: A Journey into Sound and History Step inside our private museum, a true time capsule from the late 1800s. This building houses the unique legacy of the famous Norwegian musician and author, Matias Orheim. Among the treasures, you will find his original Braille Bible and rare historical documents.
• Experience the Music: We invite you to do more than just look—we want you to feel the history. You are welcome to:
• Play the "Musical Glasses": Try your hand at the ethereal glass music that made Orheim famous. This rare instrument consists of specially tuned glasses that produce a "heavenly" sound.
• The Traveling Violins: You can also see and play the very same violins that Matias Orheim carried with him on his travels across Norway over a century ago.
• For a truly unique experience, it is even possible to spend the night here, surrounded by the echoes of history.

Forest Peace and Fjord Powers

You don’t need a car to experience the greatness of Norwegian nature:
• The Forest: A short hike from the farm up into "the magic forest." Here you’ll find a fire pit and an old stone barn that invites adventure and storytelling.
• The Fjord: Right at the water’s edge, our sturdy lounge chair await—the perfect spot for meditation while taking in the views of the Nordfjord. For the adventurous, we offer free use of canoe, fishing gear, and life jackets. If you are looking for a more classic experience, you can hire our steady rowing boat. It is excellent for a peaceful morning workout in the sun or for trying your luck at fishing further out on the fjord. Why not end your day with a refreshing dip in the Nordfjord?
• Mountain Hikes: Follow the trail from the farm to Røedsetra or Lundavaren for spectacular views of the fjords and mountains.

Orheimssætra – A Journey 200 Years Back in Time

For the ultimate "off-grid" experience, spend a night at Orheimssætra (the mountain farm). There is no electricity, no charging ports, and water is fetched from a natural spring. Cook over a primus stove or open fire, light candles, and experience the silence exactly as it was 200 years ago. The cabin sleeps 4 and is reached by a short drive followed by a 30-minute walk on a scenic trail.

Practical and Central

Even though you are surrounded by idyllic countryside, Orheimstunet has everything you need:
• Fully equipped indoor kitchen and an outdoor kitchen/grill.
• Washing machine.
• EV charger on-site and, of course, free parking.
• Local Hosts: We live in the neighboring house and love to share "insider tips" about hidden gems like the Gryta waterfall, Fannstøylen, and Orheimsbotnen.

Location: Orheimstunet is centrally located in Nordfjord. 15 minute drive from Fjord Horse Center, Deer Farm and Sagastad. Within a one-hour drive, you can reach everything from the wild cliffs of Vestkapp to the Briksdal Glacier, Loen Skylift, and the summer road to Geiranger.
