Briksdalsbreen Glacier

Kleivafossen Waterfall in Briksdal © Normanns KunstforlagThe huge Briksdal Glacier forms part of the Jostedal Glacier National Park. The wild glacier slope plunges from a height of 1200 metres down to the lush, narrow Briksdalen valley - a sight that attract 300,000 visitors from all over the world each year.

Briksdalsbreen Glacier lies at the end of enchanting Oldedal valley, about 20 km from Olden. From the mountain lodge it is 2 km on a gravel road up to the glacier. You can walk there or be driven in open cars. Briksdal glacier mountain lodge is open from medio April to Medio October. Glacier tours, restaurant and a large souvenir boutique.


Transport to the Glacier
Troll cars take you to the Briksdal Glacier © Egil Åbrekk"Troll" cars can bring you to the glacier in from medio April to medio October. The price is (2009) NOK 180 per person, Children 7-14 years old recieve a 50% discount. Children under 7 years old: free. The trip takes 1,5 hrs there and back. Advance booking is recommended. Oldedalen Staging Association was formed in 1923. The road passes through beautiful, wild scenery and crosses the foaming glacier river twice. Also available for disabled. Experience the Briksdalsbreen Glacier at close quarters on one of our guided trips on the lake to which the glacier tongue descends. We paddle in large rubber dinghies between the icebergs floating in the lake. An experience for all the family. Read more
