Cycling 

Explorers on two wheels will find a multitude of options in Nordfjord. Whether you long for gently winding roads or action-packed off-road routes, the enormously varied landscape has the perfect bike tour for you. The mountains challenge you to test your strength and stamina with steep climbs, while picturesque villages along country roads are perfect for an easy-going scenic ride. Explore old carriage roads that hardly see any traffic, follow the asphalt roads winding through narrow valleys, or bike along the wild coast where the cool ocean breeze is your companion on the road. With such a variety of experiences, challenges and hidden gems to discover, could Nordfjord be one of Norway’s best cycling destinations? We certainly think so – and we invite you to explore the myriad of new trails and roads to discover the true beauty of Nordfjord. 

 

Flofjellet mountain from Hellesylt to Stryn 

This bike tour starts in Hellesylt and continues along the road to Vollset, where the steep descent down Flofjellet carries you to Flo, a charming village filled with fruit farms. From Flo continue along Oppstrynsvatnet lake to Sunde where you come in on route RV 15 to Stryn. Do remember to equip your bike with lights as you will be passing through a tunnel. Flofjellet is filled with contrast, from powerful waterfalls to serene mountain lakes and traditional summer pasture farms. The tour takes 4-6 hrs to complete is about 40 km long, with the highest point at approximately 550 m.

Mountain biking in Oppstryn: 

Napen is a world-class bike trail suited to experienced mountain bikers. 

Glæra / the “Himalayan” trail is marked with double black difficulty level, for expert mountain bikers looking for a new challenge. 

Hjellestien consists of mainly gravel roads partly broken up by paths, suitable for all levels. 

Erdal, suitable for children up until the first mountain farm. 

Floodlit trails, suitable for all levels. 

Pump track in Folven 

Harpefossen, Eid

Harpefossen is a good starting point for cycling trips on a varied network of roads and paths. Choose between the circular track (8 km), passing by four summer pasture farms, or the scenic Old Postal Road from Harpefossen waterfall to Bjørkedalen and back (20 km in total). Season from May to October. 

Gloppen 

Popular area for mountain bikers. Haugsvarden, Leirstøylen and Vereideskogen are our top tips, you can also cycle to one of the many valleys and lovely mountain pasture enclosures on good forest roads. Pump track in Sandane.
