The municipality whose centre lies by the 514 metre deep Hornindalsvatnet lake, has 1,200 inhabitants, and covers an area of 190 square kilometres. Hornindal is the smallest region in Nordfjord.
Agriculture and arts and crafts (mainly woodcarving) and folk music are strongly represented in this valley community.
The Anders Svor Museum contains 450 sculptures and often has visiting exhibitions.
Three "Honndal-scythe" blades are depicted on the municipal crest.
