Eid

Eid is known for opera, fjord horses, shopping and wonderful hiking possibilities.

As in the rest of the region agriculture has a strong position here, but trade and industry are also important - Frislid Konfeksjon (textiles) and the Hellesøy Nordfjord shipyard among others.

Nordfjordeid has much to offer in the way of education - its schools include the Folk High School, which offers courses linked to Fjord horses and provides the only circus education in Norway.

Its central location puts Nordfjordeid in a unique position as regards commerce, with Eidsgata in the centre of town offering a wide range of goods.

There is a National Fjord Horse centre in the municipality, its task being to boost the breed's standing. As in Gloppen, the horse appears on the municipal crest.

Eid municipality has a population of 5.779 (01.01.2004), and covers an area of 468 square kilometres.

Summer-shopping

Summer shopping was launched last year and has been a great success. Every weekend throughout the entire summer Eidsgata street and the town centre invite you to attend the Saturday market and experience pedestrian streets buzzing with activity. Live music and other entertainment turn your shopping trip into a cultural experience. On 15 July excerpts from operas will be performed in both Gamlebanken (the old bank) and outdoors. Several voluntary organisations will be on hand to serve coffee, waffles and other snacks. The final summershopping weekend coincides with the Malakoff rock music festival – a festival that has won the support of the entire town. 1200 free parking spaces and spacious parks await you.
