The most spectacular mountains of Southern Norway are situated on the west coast, covered with untouched snow, waiting for your first tracks. Some of the best mountains you will find around the Jostedalen glacier National Park. We strongly recommend to hire a mountain guide to find the best snow conditions, and to make your ski adventure an experience for life! You need mountain skills and experience to go ski touring in Norway on your own. Weather and conditions may change rapidly on the west coast of Norway. Touring skis and bindings, shovel, probe and a avalanche transmitter/receiver is required, as is map, compass and/or gps device. Knowhow on avalanche safety and navigational skills is strongly recommended.

Skåla (1848 m.a.s.l)
Skåla is considered one of the most spectacular mountain walks in the country. During the winter, with the first track warranty! During the summer, the swarm of people around the special stone hut on top, but in winter we can almost guarantee the first track both up and down. From the parking lot follow the tractor road which later becomes the path upwards in Fosdalen. Cross the river at about 650 meters height. Then go 400 meters hight with persistent steep slopes up to Skåla lake. Continue southeast to the bottom, and from here take the left towards the broad ridge leading to the peak. Downturn the same way. The trip to Skåla can, despite its reputation, be done all winter without great danger of avalanches, but it requires good visibility and good judgement. Let this trip to wait if there is rain or fog! This is a moderate / strenuous hike of approx. 5 hours. The trip starts almost by sea level, in the parking lot about half kilometer from the Loen center.
Kyrkjenibba (1400 m.a.s.l.)
Kyrkejenibba is one of the most prominent mountains in the immediate vicinity of Stryn. Some call the view from the top the most beautiful in Inner Nordfjord. The most common variant starts from the farm Skår / Garlid of about 300 m.a.s.l. A short walk on the path straight up from Skår brings you in on a better path on the west side of the river in Skår valley. At the head of the old farm, it is usually easy to cross the river (in late spring you may need to go further up the valley). Go up the large valley, first in the bottom, then cross up to right to avoid dangers of avalanches in the northwestern slope of the bottom of the valley. On top of the shoulder you continue toward the top at a good distance from any drifts. Good skiers may well run on the front side on the stable spring snow. Follow RV 15 towards Strynefjellet, about 10 km from Stryn turn left towards Flo, but take the first gravel road up to the left and follow this to the end. Kyrkjenibba can also be reached from Kyrkjeeide Mountain and up Fagerdalen (Source: FriFlyt.no).
Mt. Sisiliekruna (1717 m.)
Sisiliekruna is a majestic mountain west of the glaciers, with a view to Mt. Lodalskåpa and Jostedal Glacier. The summit is a kind of plateau with two identical "horns" on each side. There are two alternative routes to the top of this great mountain. These can be combined so that the trip to the summit is a "round trip". The first option starts at Drageset mountain farm and in scattered brush up on Storeloga. From there, the trip along the ridge that ends up on Storlogpiken (1554). Now you are on top of a spectacular mountain ridge as you continue up to the pass at the top. Option two is to go further up the valley from Hilde mountain farm. Hold the bottom of the valley by Fesser, but move upward the steep mountain side right after the quarter - so that you come into the marked "lake valley" 1258, From here, ski 50 meters down on the glacier and follow this up to the pass east of the summit. This option is recommended as a spring trip when it is danger for avalanches and when it occasionally is formed a crack in the top of the glacier. Last piece up from the pass you will find out by yourself. The walk up to the mountain starts at Innvik. Run the relatively poor gravel road from here (can be muddy if wet) so far you come up against Hilde mountain farm (FriFlyt.no).
Hornindalsrokken (1526 m.)
Spectacular peak that is easily accessible from Kjellstad valley. Offers great views and opportunities for great descents. The trip is best from December to May. Hornindalsrokken lies on the border of three municipalities (Hornindal, Stranda and Ørsta) and between Sogn og Fjordane and Møre og Romsdal county. From Hellesylt it is approx. 10 km up to the trails. On the right side of the road you can drive into a gravel road and park. You will recognize the road by the mirror which is placed on the opposite side (FriFlyt.no)
