Usually in November/December a white layer of snow will cover Nordfjord. The winter normally lasts through March. From May to July/August you are able to enjoy snow activities at Stryn Summerski Centre.
At the coast, winters are often mild with little snow, while there is a lot of snow further inland and often good powder snow. In Nordfjord you will find world-class skiing terrain and great ski centres with prepared tracks set in the beautiful and spectacular scenery of Western Norway, often with great views of the fjord. A trip to Nordfjord during winter can be spiced up with summit trips, surfing at Stad, spa and well-being treatments, delicious meals prepared using local ingredients, or you can just enjoy the dramatic winter landscape of the fjords.
The most skiing resorts have more than lifts and hills to offer. Most have several kilometres long cross country tracs, skiing courses, childrens lifts and cafées. When you are planning a trip to Nordfjord, contact us or the skiing resort for updated information on the snow conditions.

Cross country skiing
Nordfjord offers endless areas covered in powder and several kilometres of groomed trails with a variety of opportunities and great snow conditions for cross country. We are proud of national and international trails, which were arenas for Nordic Championship in 1996, and Nordic Junior World Championship in 2004. In Nordfjord you can enjoy nature to the sound of your ski poles alone, or you can choose the company of others on the more crowded trails.
Ski mountaineering
The mountains in Nordfjord range from a few hundred to about two thousand m.a.s.l. The alpine enthusiasts can have a choice between over 30 different mountain tops. Several guide companies offer ski mountaineering: Briksdal Adventure, Bergtatt Stryn, Norway AdvenTURes and Nordfjord Adventure.
Surfing
The surf conditions at Stad are perfect in winter. Stad is considered one of Norway's best surf spots.
